“A Light in the Attic” is one of my daughters favorite book. It is actually my sisters book but it’s sitting on my daughters cabinet as if it was hers. Before sleeping, my daughter would either read her books or she’d ask one of us to read one of her favorite books. During one of these book reading sessions, she showed me the scrap book made by my sister and she asked me to read it to her. I was surprised to find out that it was my sisters school project and that the project was about their book reading sessions.
You see, Jamie is a pretty bright kid. In fact I asked Ate Pauline to assess her when she turned 1 and she told me that Jamie can do what most 5 or 6 year old kids can do. I smiled when she told me that and I was really proud. Inside, I was afraid because I didn’t know how to handle such a bright kid. It was a good thing I have my parents and my siblings.
…she told me that

can do….
Anyway, I was reading my sisters scrap book and then I came to this line: “Ano yung poetry?” To which my daughter blurted out, “Poetry! Example Where the Sidewalk Ends or yung A Light in the Attic” “Ha? Anung Where the Sidewalk Ends?” And then she rolled her eyes and got the book of Shel Silverstein from my sisters book shelf. It was poetry alright! According to my sister, my daughter understands poetry better than short stories.
Even Jamie’s teacher was surprised when it was their book week and Jamie’s list of books were different from what her classmates choose. And she asked me if Jamie’s going to read them. I looked at my sister and then we both smiled and said, “yes.” Her teacher also told us that Jamie is bored with the lessons because she already knows them. In fact, when she gets home, she’d do her assignments on her own and will just show me where I need to sign.
I’m seriously thinking of having a professional asses her if she’s gifted. I think she is, of course, I’m her mom!
