I saw a clip on youtube about Imee Marcos and the Creative Media and Film Society of the Philippines, or “CreaM” and found it interesting that finally, someone has taken notice of the Filipinos creativity. After Ibong Adarna and Culture Crash I never thought that something like that will ever come out in the market again but I’m glad I was wrong.
Check out the “Fly Aswang Trailer” below by CreaM.

Wikipedia defines “Aswang” as (or Asuwang) is a ghoul in Filipino folklore. The myth of the Aswang is popular in the Western Visayan regions such as Capiz, Iloilo and Antique. The trademark or major feature of Aswangs which distinguish them from other Filipino mythological creatures is their propensity to replace stolen cadavers with the trunk of a banana tree carved in the cadaver’s likeness. They are also said to like to eat small children. Their favorite body parts are the liver and heart. Other local names, especially in Capiz are tik-tik and wak-wak. |
I also saw a trailer of Urduja another animated moview set to be released this year.
Oh, by the way, did you know that there’s also a US version of Aswang? A movie version I mean. The US video title is “The Unearthling,” directed by Wrye Martin and Barry Poltermann. I didn’t watch it though so I really can’t say much about it except that reviews of it state that the film had a lot of gory details.
