Fitness First – Que Horror

Jon and I signed up with fitness first last year.  Anyway, before I even used my membership, my mom bought gym equipments…and they’re expensive too mind you.  I asked Fitness First to freeze my account for a whole year because I won’t be able to use it anymore.  Jon will just transfer my membership as soon as his membership expires.  They said everything is in order already until I saw that my credit card was billed for full.  So I filed a complaint and it took them 3 months to resolve the issue.

But wait, there’s more!!!!

August and September of this year I already told Jon to visit Fitness First because I do not want any hassles with my membership and I wanted the transfer to be effective as soon as my membership expires.  So Jon went there with a letter informing them that we want to transfer the membership.  The manager of Fitness First the Fort, Lotchel Macera informed us that we need to fax a letter to them.  So we faxed the letter to them and I took care of sending them an email.

October and November I asked Lanie to follow up the transfer with Fitness First and they told me to send them an email about it which I did.

December – I got a letter from Fitness First telling me that I have a delinquent account and that I should settle it and that they are forwarding this to their law whatever. I was furious and I asked Lanie to call Lot about it.  AGAIN, they told me to send them an email.  And I did.  Around 20 times I think.  The next day,miracle of all miracles, Lot replied and told me and told me that they were calling, texting and sending emails to Jon but he isnt replying.  That is stupid!  We never received anything from them!!

And then I got a call from Atty. Ryan Besid Law Office telling me that I have a delinquent account.  WTF???  He also texted me a number of times and I found it harassing already.  I told the lawyer that it is not my problem that Fitnes First/Lot Manchera and her staff are useless.

I decided to ask Lanie and Jon to talk to Lot again and everytime they did, Fitness First will say that she is either in a meeting or she is on vacation.

Finally Lanie was able to talk to Eds Villaceran and told her about my problem.  They told her that I need to settle dues and that Jon needs to go there to sign forms.  Dues???  What dues???  I called Eds myself and told her that I will not pay PhP 7,000 (according to Jon, thats the amount that I needed to pay) for their incompetence.  We’ve been wasting our time sending them emails, fax, calling them, texting and Jon even went there!!!  I also told her that I do not want to receive another call or text from that Atty and it is their fault in the first place.  Somebody called me in the afternoon and told me that Jon needs to go there to sign forms and I need to pay PhP 444 for 4 months and the transfer fee of PhP 2,000.  FINE!!  I told her to deduct it from Jons credit card :-D and I also told her that it will not deduct, I need her to call me so I can give my credit card number.  She didn’t call me so I assumed everything is ok.

We went there yesterday and — Surprise!  Surprise! — they don’t know what the hell we’re talking about!!!  I was furious!  It was a good thing I keep a record of my call logs and I called the girl who called me and told me that everything is ok.  I told her everything is not ok and I asked her to meet me and fix everything.  She was smiling when she greeted me and I had to commend her for doing that because I was furious with her on the phone.  But anyway I asked her why she didn’t call me when the credit card got declined.  See the thing is, we’re gonna pay BUT are they going to pay us for all the time we wasted calling, texting, emailing and faxing them?  Are they going to pay Jon for the times he went there and they didn’t tell him properly what needs to be done in order to transfer the membership?  NO!

FINALLY, after 5 months, everything is settled (I hope).  They gave the forms to Jon and the membership is now transferred to him.

It’s infuriating because it’s a really small and simple problem but it turned into something big because of their inefficiency.

Fitness First is a scam.

Buhay pa ba ang Slimmer’s World? I think gym membership is better there. I have not heard any horror stories about Slimmers World, unlike all the negative feedback about Fitness First.

Sos-”syalan” lang naman ang Fitness First eh.

Yeah they are. There are a lot of horror stories about them kaya nga I didn’t really want to enroll in their stupid program. Im glad we have our own gym.

The problem with them is their employees especially those who are on the front desk. The gym itself is ok, but its the people there are the ones who makes it suck. I have tried other gyms from your local kanto gym to the medium sized gyms along EDSA. I will post one on my blog after shift :)

It’s not all bad BUT you should be very vigilant and aggressive towards FF people or else they will sweep your pockets clean.

Kaya pala some of the people I met on that gym are very rude towards the employees of FF and sometimes treats them as if they are dogs. Tsk tsk

I enlisted Fitness First gym last March 2008 for a year contract. That same year I went in and out of the country totalling 7 months and wasn;t able to use the memebership. I tried to freeze it a couple of times but paid in full the rest of the time. This year I expected the contract to end after a year. To my surprise and indignation they kept on billing me. Now I told them I want to cancel. They said it will take effect only in December 2009! I told them I hardly ever used it and kept on paying. But they said the contract is automatic renewal after a year unless cancelled. What kind of contract is that? You cannot cancel anytime within the year but it is automatically renewed after the contract expires!
